or bathrooms
- Can be placed in existing firebox/chimney

Direct Vent - Vent runs
horizontally through an outside wall (like a clothes dryer)
- Require a special pipe that
goes from the unit directly through an outside wall
- Uses outside air to fuel the
fire
- All moisture and gases created
by combustion exit the home
- Must be placed on an outside
wall
- Can be placed in bedrooms or
bathrooms
- Most Popular choice for new
homes
- Typically have a sealed glass
front
- Do Not need a chimney
- Up to 85% efficient
Vented - Must be vented
up and out of the home.
- Vents most like a traditional
chimney
- Typically have higher BTU output
to compensate for heat lost through vent
- Sometimes require a special
pipe to line existing chimney
- Up to 75% efficient on average
- Usually have more flames and
bigger flames
- Appearance is the biggest selling
point for these
Which is best?
